Brilliant Spa Garden at Rockcliffe Hall

Rockcliffe Hall’s Spa Garden is the Icing on a Relaxing and Rejuvenating Cake!

With the hectic pace of modern life, sometimes a spa break is the only thing that will help you switch off and unwind. However, finding the right spa can be a stressful experience as prices are often high and standards can be variable. Tracking down somewhere that offers good value for money as well as high quality facilities and friendly and welcoming ambiance can seem impossible but we think we may just have found the perfect place – Rockliffe Hall Golf and Spa Hotel in Darlington.

Having just returned from a 1 night spa break at Rockliffe Hall we can confidently say that this is the best spa hotel we have stayed at in the north of England. In fact, anywhere in the UK! A 5 star hotel containing one of the largest spas in the country, as well as a selection of restaurants from fine dining to informal, Rockliffe Hall really does have it all. There’s even an 18 hole championship golf course on site if that’s your thing.

The old part of the hotel building dates back to the 18th century and the new hall rooms were added in 2009 which means that there’s a satisfying mix of old and modern, with the spa itself unsurprisingly housed in the newest part of the hotel.

The spa is light and welcoming and contains a 20 metre pool surrounded by a good number of chairs and loungers as well as a shallower children’s pool off to the side. Around the main pool you will find a sauna, caldarium and juice bar as well as a circular hot tub just outside which can seat up to 8 people. Through a set of double doors lies the impressive thermal area and a huge hydrotherapy pool as well as a tepidarium, cold igloo room with ice fountain, a tropicarium (similar to a sauna but more humid) and four hot and cold foot baths. All of this is very impressive and you could easily spend a blissful couple of days trying the various experiences and enjoying some serious rest and relaxation.

However, the highlight for me was a visit to the spa garden and I would heartily recommend it as an addition to your stay. The spa garden is an indoor and outdoor space to relax and can be booked for 2 hours for a maximum of 16 people so is a great place to enjoy even more peace and quiet. Currently £30 per person for a 2 hour slot, it features comfortable seating around a central water sculpture as well as a glass-fronted sauna and tepidarium beds facing floor to ceiling windows that can be opened completely in the summer. The outdoor area boasts an infinity-edge hydro pool as well as comfortable seating and hot drinks on tap – you won’t want to leave, we know we certainly didn’t!

In conclusion, I would recommend without hesitation a trip to Rockliffe Hall, check out their website for special offers and make sure you book the spa garden as we guarantee that it will be the highlight of your stay!
